  About the conference
(was: call for papers)First announcement and call for papers

Since 1994 the European Conference of Product and Process Modeling (ECPPM) has been providing a platform to discuss a topic of utmost importance for the construction industry. The structuring of product and process information allows for more sophisticated collaboration and information sharing in this fragmented industry. At conferences in Dresden (1994), Watford (1998) and Lisbon (2000) over 200 papers were presented, showing the current state of the art in research, development, standardization and industrial implementation of the product and process data technology. In 2002, ECPPM is coming to Slovenia, a new country "on the sunny side of the Alps" and a candidate for joining the EU.

The objective of the ECPPM 2002 is to bring together researchers, members of the standardization bodies, software and Web service developers and users from the construction industry to once again provide the overview of the current state of the art and chart new directions of the field. As traditionally at ECPPM conferences, we expect thorough reports form the construction related 5th framework IST projects as well as projects from programs like IMS, Brite-EuRam, Copernicus, EUREKA, etc. ECPPM will reinforce old friendships and forge new ones. It will help in establishing new partnerships or fertilize ideas about new projects.

Who should attend

  • researchers and scientists from the filed of information technology in construction,
  • software developers,
  • web service providers,
  • chief information officers (CIOs) of construction companies,
  • engineers and architects.

Conference topics

The organizers are looking for scientific papers, extending the state of the art, as well as technical papers, reporting industrial experience. The themes of the ECPPM 2002 include all the traditional product and process modeling topics such as:
  • product and process modeling approach
    • philosophy, paradigms,
    • theories,
    • ontologies
    • frameworks

    • applied research
    • development
    • implementation
    • use of product and process models

Conference focus

Since the first ECPPM in 1994, the product and process technology has been maturing and found its position in the software and construction industry. Also, the interests of the research community were strongly influenced by the developments of the Internet, the Web and other wired and wireless communication technologies. This is also a topic pursued very early by the conference host organization. Therefore, the topics in the focus of the ECPPM 2002 include:
  • product and process technologies and the Internet,
  • product and process technologies and mobile communication networks,
  • collaboration portals,
  • information portals,
  • Internet mediated collaboration,
  • implementation of XML Internet related standards and beyond.

Programme

The preliminary program is on-line

Promotion and dissemination

2002 ECPPM is widely advertised on the Internet and in the mail. Conference website will be used to publish at least the extended abstracts of all papers and the works will be submitted to all the major search engines on the Internet so that the Internet generation will have access to presented works.

The proceedings of ECPPM conferences have traditionally been published as a hard-bound book by a reputable publisher, ensuring availability in better libraries and on-line merchants such as the amazon.com.

Conference fees and other costs

The fee range is from 275 to 550 Euro. Examine this price-list for details.

A single room in the conference Hotel Slovenia costs about 70-90 EUR. There are several other hotels within minutes walk from the conference hotel with prices ranging from 30 EUR. A particularly good deal would be taking a package tour to Portoroz, organized by quite a few travel agencies in major European countries.

Important dates (non negotiable)

15-Feb-2002 End of pre-registration period. Anyone registering with a valid email address (no need to send any money) before this date will be entitled to a 5% discount of the conference fee.
15-Feb-2002 One page abstracts are due.
30-Mar-2002 Notification of acceptance. A paper can be (a) fully accepted, (b) conditionally accepted or (c) rejected. Full version of the conditionally accepted papers will be reviewed again.
